Looking to get started but don't know what hardware to get? Well point you in the right direction!

Hardware needed

  1. A Projector
  2. A Media Player
  3. A Projector Enclosure- to keep out all season long (cost more initally but easier as you can just turn on each evening with everything aligned correctly)

Orrrr.. you can use a table or tripod stand and set up each evening (much cheaper/free but you will need to set-up and realign each evening)

1. Projector

Before we get to the projectors we recommend, it is important to know how deep your yard is and how wide your house is. Once your get those numbers down then we can look at the throw ratio. So for example if a short throw projector has a throw ratio of .5:1, that means for every 6 inches of distance the projector is set back, the video/image will be 1 foot wide on the house. That is the shortest throw projector we recommend below. If the depth of your yard still isn't deep enough, maybe only getting a portion of your house is what you'll have to settle with.

The 3 projectors recommended above do change from time to time as they go in and out of stock along with accasionally being discontinued. Double check after clicking the link that they look the same as the pictures and model is the exact same. Prices also change depending on availability so i listed their average price initially.. if it's a lot more, either wait until it drops or look at one of the other 2 projectors as they are all good options!

If the price is a little steeper than you are wanting to spend, you can always go to Ebay and go the used route. My recommendations are looking up Epson powerlite 530 and Epson powerlite 535W. These typically run around the $200-$300 price range. These are not FULL HD so resolution is a little worse that the 3 recommened projectors but they are still good options. One thing to look out for is bulb hours. The less, the better as them dim with age. They max out at 5,000 hours so try to find one less than 2000 hours. If it's a lot more than that, you can replace the bulbs for typically $100.

2. Media Player

There are many options for media players and luckily are pretty cheap now days.

Once we send the fitted video to you via email, put it on a USB stick and plug it into the media player. It should simply auto play the video and loop it over and over.

3. Projector Enclosure-for permanent set up all season long. Or you can set up each night on a table

Projector enclosures are a good thing to invests in if you don't want to set up your projector each night and re-align. There are a few key things to keep in mind when looking to make or purchase an enclosure.
